Science Facilitators
Science Facilitators Program

A Science Facilitators is a teacher of Science who is committed to continuous growth of his/her instructional repertoire. A Science Facilitators is willing to experiment with new instructional practices, implement the use of hands-on science experiments, explore technology integration, and adopts best practices in Science education. In addition, a Science Facilitators is willing to share, discuss and model these new ideas with his/her colleagues.


SCIENCE Facilitators PD MODEL

The Science Facilitators will be expected to provide professional development for colleagues using the process described below. This process will be implemented twice during each school year.

STEP 1 – Each Science Facilitator will select a topic for a professional development module to share with colleagues. This module may include, but is not limited to:
  • Modeling a best-practice in Science instruction
  • Employing inquiry or problem based learning in the classroom
  • Use of data analysis to improve instruction
  • Using Science manipulatives effectively
  • Other appropriate topics
STEP 2 – Each Science Facilitator will spend one school day released for his/her classroom to prepare this PD module. The Science Facilitators may work in small groups and will be assisted by an outside consultant.

STEP 3 – Each Science Facilitator will spend another school day implementing this PD module with two (2) of his/her peers (protégées). A substitute teacher will be provided for the Science Facilitator and for the protégées.
