"EGGineering Project Reaches New Heights"

  • A special thank you to the Grand Island Fire Department for helping with our latest egg drop contest.  Students were challenged to build a "vehicle" that could protect an egg during a crash from various heights.  Designs were tested at 10 feet, 20 feet, shot out of an air cannon, and last but not least, dropped from the top of the fire department ladder truck!  We had many different designs survive the challenge!

TECHNICAL DESIGN I (Formerly Pre- Engineering Graphics) is back this year at Grand Island Senior High School.  Taught by Mr. Koppmann, this class is a great addition for anyone thinking about pursuing some type of design or engineering as a career.  It's smart to take this class after you have taken DDP (Design & Drawing for Production) however, DDP is not a prerequisite at this time.  This class will focus on technical drawing, CAD 3-d modeling, and physical engineering.  Technical Design I  is a fun, hands-on learning environment!

7530    TECHNCAL DESIGN I

Multi-level Grades 9-12

20 Weeks   .5 Credit

·        This class is designed to take the learning of engineering concepts and principles to the next level.  Through the use of technical drawing and 3-D computer modeling, students will design, draw, and produce solutions to challenges and problems to communicate design intent. All students can benefit from this class.  However, if you are considering a career in one of the following fields, you should take this class.

·                    Engineering                   CAD Design                 Industry

·                    Graphic design Art                               Interior Design

·                    Fashion Design Architecture                  Construction

·                    Automotive                   Medicine

·                    Animation                     Municipal/ Government work

All students are encouraged to take this class, male and female.

7535    TECHNICAL DESIGN II (Formerly Principles of Engineering)

Grades 11 and 12 ONLY

40 Weeks Credit 1.0

Prerequisite: Technical Design I

·        This course builds on the Design, Drawing, Production, and Engineering classes that are the prerequisites for this class.  The goal of this course is to provide an advanced experience in various aspects of engineering for 11th and 12th grade students. The course is taught in an engineering laboratory setting providing access to computers, advanced modeling software, fabrication equipment, and various materials. Students will model activities of actual engineers through individual, small group, and large group projects, while using advanced mathematical and scientific theories. Principles of Engineering is designed to provide students with a challenging hands-on-experience.
